Kathryn loved Market of Choice before she ever working here. Lured to the store by her husband, she used to walk the aisles of our West Linn Market and ooh and aah at all of the offerings.
“It’s such a beautiful store with so many beautiful products,” she says. “I used to walk around the store all the time before I worked here.” Then it dawned on her one day that she needed to apply for a job.
Prior to her current position as Produce Manager, Kathryn worked in our Kitchen making scratch-made foods and later served in a management role. One of the things she enjoys most about working at Market of Choice, she says, is the opportunity to learn and grow.
Still somewhat new to her position in the Produce Department, she’s learning all she can about the many fruits and vegetables, herbs and mushrooms and other items in her department, as well as gaining a better understanding of the relationships we have with local farmers.
“There’s so many awesome things about produce – different fruits, different vegetables – and to be able to put it all out there and make it nice and pretty for customers who go, ‘Ooh, I want to try that!’ – I just love that,” she says.
Equally important to her is the relationships she’s developed with her teammates and customers over the years. She’s found people to be far more supportive than at her previous job, working for a food chain, she says.
“Customers come in and tell me about their family,” she says. “I have one guy who comes in and he always gives me a positive affirmation, like “You made today great!’”
When she’s not at work, she likes to be at home spending time with her husband, who also works at our West Linn Market. She also enjoys hiking and taking her dog for long walks. “I like nature, that’s my thing,” she says. “The more outdoors, the better.”
Kathryn is glad things have worked out well for her at Market of Choice, which she calls “a great company to work for.” She says she loves the people she works with and the supportive environment that gives her a chance to learn new things.
“I love this area, and I really like our customers,” she says. “This is my store, and these are my people.”
