Before passing away from pancreatic cancer in 2009, Scott Moritz’s last words to his wife Stacy, were “don’t let my legacy die.”

“You mean, the hot sauce?” Stacy replied.

He meant the incredibly flavorful habanero sauce he developed and began selling at Portland farmers markets under the quirky name, Secret Aardvark.

With a knack for business and a determination to keep her word, Stacy got busy marketing Scott’s hot sauce to a larger audience and eventually developing new “Scott-worthy” flavors such as Drunken Jerk, Red Scorpion and Serrabanero Green Hot Sauce, to name a few.

“Food sometimes takes itself too seriously,” Stacy says, “and we believe food should be fun.”

Part of Scott Moritz’s success in the kitchen (and in life) was his willingness to do the unexpected, and that’s the spirit that Stacy and others at Secret Aardvark continue to embrace.

Secret Aardvark sauces can be found in over 5,000 roadhouses, eateries, and groceries across the nation. Some flavors are sophisticated and classic, while others are fun and unexpected.
