Oregon pioneers and their award-winning wines
The specialness of Oregon wine is no secret.
Oregon winemakers have been receiving international accolades for decades, and the growing investment in Oregon vineyards and wineries by leading French and California winemakers simply confirms what we know: Oregon is a special place to make wine.
Today, Oregon’s wine-growing regions can be found west of the Cascades from Ashland to Portland, and from the Oregon Coast, along the Columbia River Gorge, to the northeast corner of the state. Even in the arid climate of Central and Eastern Oregon, a few hearty souls have planted vineyards.
Each region’s wineries association offers information about member wineries and the wines produced:
Oregon varietals abound
No matter what your preference is – whether elegant, silky wines, or deep, rich bold wines – Oregon’s winemakers produce such a bounty of varietals that there seems to be very few reasons to seek out wines from other parts of the world.
Not all Oregon winemakers want to perfect Pinot noir or live their passion in the Willamette Valley. Despite the increasing maturity of Oregon wine, alongside the industry’s established winemakers, are many modern pioneers—esoteric creatives bent on perfection. Oregon’s many varietals range from the iconic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Albarino, Tempranillo, Syrah, Cab Franc, Chenin Blanc and more.
Winemaking techniques – from biodynamics and live certification to dry-farm production – also play a role in each wine’s final flavor profile.
