Life is not just about soap for Oregon Soap Company’s founder Gregg Arnell of Portland. It’s about being a responsible environmental steward and producing soap in the cleanest, most renewable way possible, and the ethos of his company reflects this stewardship.

Maker of organic soaps for nearly 30 years, Oregon Soap Company uses primarily organic vegetable oils and natural ingredients, Oregon Tilth-certified, to produce its bar, liquid and castile soaps.

These soaps are also Carbonfund-certified carbon neutral: For every 10 bars of soap sold or 5 gallons of liquid soap sold, a native plant or tree is planted in partnership with Friends of Trees and Trees for the Future. Since 2007, more than 750,000 native plants and trees have been planted.

Carbonfund also supports third-party and verified renewable energy, including wind farms and solar power, to replace reliance on fossil fuels. Using renewable energy is another cornerstone of Oregon Soap Company’s mission.

Oregon Soap Company’s mild, long-lasting soaps are boldly scented and will leave you feeling clean and feeling good about the environment.

The bar soaps are mild enough for babies and people with sensitive skin, yet tough enough to wash away harmful bacteria and germs. Bar soap recipes are as creative as Tangermint Scrub Bar or French Clay & Geranium Bar or Soapman’s Spice Bar. The self-foaming hand soaps come in an array of fragrances to delight your senses. Made with olive oil, the castile soaps are mild and soothing, but tough enough to clean your home.

Giving to the community is important to Oregon Soap Company, too, donating thousands of pounds of bar soap scraps to local nonprofits, including Gleaners of Clackamas County and Oregon Food Bank.

Find a selection of Oregon Soap Company products in your Market’s Whole Health Department and support their admirable environmental efforts with each purchase.

“I love the work I do and the people I work with,” Gregg says. “The Market of Choice staff is delightful!”
