Obstacle Course

In 2015, when Kidsports Executive Director Bev Smith said, “We need to build a turf field and fieldhouse so that thousands of kids in our community can discover the joy of fitness and participate on a sports team in a safe, stable environment,” Rick Wright, CEO of Market of Choice said, “Let’s do it!”

That dream has become a reality with Civic Park, located at the historic Civic Stadium site at 22nd Avenue, between Willamette Street and Amazon Parkway, in the heart of Eugene. The field house contains four basketball courts, which can also be used for other sports, such as volleyball, pickleball, badminton and futsal. The outdoor turf field accommodates soccer, football, rugby and ultimate frisbee.

Market of Choice made the initial donation and has been a partner ever since. “Market of Choice has been so important to this project,” says Smith, “Not only by making a significant financial gift, but also by providing inspiration and advice along the way.”

“It’s wonderful to see kids from all backgrounds playing together on the field for the first time,” says Wright. “Those kids are our future. They don’t realize it, but they are making history right now. Our community did a good thing in building Civic Park. I’m proud Market of Choice is a part of it.”

Eugene Civic Alliance still needs to raise $4.9 million to complete the $30 million Phase One capital campaign. Right now, every $2 given will receive a $1 match, up to $1 million. To make a donation of any size or to learn more, go to playcivicpark.org.
