Josie Johnson, owner of Josie’s Best Gluten-Free Mixes, enjoyed watching her father, Russ, a seasoned chef and culinary wizard, whip up delicious breakfasts when she was a young girl.
“I always appreciated good food,” Josie says, “especially if that food was fluffy, round and drizzled with syrup.”
Diagnosed with food allergies in her 20s, Josie set out to find a pancake mix that could satisfy both her cravings and her dietary needs. Nothing fit the bill, so she decided to make a pancake mix herself. After tinkering in her home kitchen with a lot of ingredients, she created The Pancake mix and Josie’s Best Gluten-Free Mixes fast became a reality, expanding to include three additional mixes: The Waffle, The Crepe, The Muffin & More.
Josie’s mixes are made in a dedicated gluten-free facility that is also free of other food allergens, such as tree nuts, peanuts, soy, egg, dairy and more.
“Our mission is to bring back breakfast for everyone,” Josie says.

A woman-owned business, Josie’s Best Gluten-Free Mixes is a family operation for which she shares business duties with her husband, Marty. “From the beginning, our family has had a hand in every part of the company.”

“When we were initially trying to get placement in stores,” Josie recalls, “I showed up at my local Market of Choice with a small baby, a toddler and samples of our products. Not only were they kind to my kiddos, but they were so receptive to trying a new product. Market of Choice gave our unknown brand a chance, and it is one of the reasons our business is what it is today. I am forever grateful.”
