How to create your own custom board

For your next holiday gathering, consider serving a classic charcuterie board that features a full range of specialty meats, cheeses, condiments and accompaniments that provide a contrast of flavors and textures, as well as sweet and salty items.

There are no hard and fast rules for creating a custom board. In general, the more the merrier. Just be sure to choose a varied combination that pleases both the eye and the palate.

The best boards often include three to five cheeses that are a mixture of soft to hard and mild to wild – think brie, chèvre, blue, gouda, manchego, gruyère, aged cheddar and shaved Parmesan.

Our brie en croute is a rich, soft, double crème brie wrapped in buttery puff pastry and stuffed with creamy Gorgonzola and a hint of pear brandy. Be sure to also try our garlic and herb baked brie with roasted mushrooms.

The same is true for meats – consider choosing a traditional hard salami like finocchioa, some thinly sliced prosciutto, cotto or mortadella, and a soft pâté.

And be sure to include a few vehicles, such as crackers and toasted baguette slices. Jellies, spreads, mustards, pickled veggies, olives, dried and fresh fruits and nuts are also must-haves.

Whether it’s an exciting new product, like black garlic vinegar, or our tried-and-true House 3-Year Cheddar, our Cheesemongers can help you mix and match items to create the perfect holiday charcuterie board.
