Made in Portland using authentic ingredients, like organic butter and real eggs, Woppa! is a new twist on the traditional South American cookie, the alfajores, a cookie sandwich filled with dulce de leche and covered in dark or white chocolate.
“The tradition of the dulce de leche filling is at the heart of this unique and authentic product,” says German Ochoa, one of the founders of Go North Imports, the producer of Woppa! “We’re transforming the traditional alfajores recipe that has been passed through generations, bringing the convenience for consumers to buy a snack in single units.”
Started in 2019, Woppa! is available in three flavors: Shortbread, Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate. They are best enjoyed, German says, to satisfy any sugar cravings, or with a cup of coffee.
Support from Market of Choice has been multifaceted, including funding for Woppa! to participate in food competitions, as well as in-store promotions.
“Our experience with Market of Choice has been excellent,” German says. “Everyone from store level to management treats us professionally and has helped us to keep growing our brand.”
As a BIPOC-owned company, Go North Imports focuses on making the Woppa! brand economically sustainable and facing “the adversity we have to overcome for our work members and ourselves,” German says.
Community involvement is important, too, adds German. “The goal is to embrace the American Dream and support local food banks within the local communities to remind kids and people in need that they are not alone in this journey.”
