PARTNER STORIES

Mamancy Tea

Mamancy Tea Co. – Beaverton

Tea offers a taste of tranquility when enjoyed alone, but it can also be the focus of a favorite social ritual that brings together family and friends. “Growing up in Kenya, my family had the tradition of gathering and drinking tea,” says Anne Johnson, owner of Mamancy Tea Co. in Beaverton. “It was a great time of joy and well-being for all.” Anne wanted to share that tradition when she opened her tea shop. She studied her favorite beverage while attending a tea sommelier school in San Francisco, learning about processing, blending and evaluating all types of tea. Anne makes an organic, caffeine-free vanilla rooibos herbal tea blend that’s sweet, smooth and full-bodied. Popular for centuries, rooibos comes from the Republic of South Africa, typically from the western mountainous region. Tea is an all-season beverage that can be served hot or cold. “Our loose-leaf teas would be great when cold-steeped to make iced tea, blended drinks or to add to your ice cream,” Anne says. “Hot tea is soothing and comforting and great for cold, rainy days, which we have so many to enjoy in Portland!”

Marigold Coffee

Marigold Coffee – Portland

As the former chef and owner of Redwing Cafe in SE Portland, Joey Gleason has had her feet firmly planted in the city’s food and beverage scene for more than 20 years. In 2009, Joey shifted her focus, turning her passion for roasting coffee into a meaningful, community-minded business called Marigold Coffee. This LGBTQ+ owned business is operated by Joey and her sister, Cassy Gleason, who are intent on building direct relationships with small farms and cooperatives that grow premium coffee. Their seasonal, high-quality coffee is available in several varieties: Squirrel Rhapsody, Kaleidoscope Blend, Roaster’s Choice, Truly Delicious Decaf, Ethiopian Seasonal and Daydreamer Bold Blend. These coffees are roasted at Buckman Coffee Factory, a unique, shared-space facility in Portland and a sister company to Marigold Coffee.

COFFEE MARKET OVERVIEW

At your Coffee Market, we take our tea and coffee seriously. Where we source our coffee is important to us because we know it’s important to you. We’re constantly researching the latest coffee and tea trends and leaning in to learn from local roasters and tea makers who truly know their stuff.

When deciding whether to carry a particular coffee, we research the roaster’s sourcing practices, the quality of the beans, the roast profile and how the coffee cups. Coffee and tea are like wine, in that the variety, terroir and farming practices greatly impact the flavor. Perishability is another reason why we focus on local roasters and tea makers. We monitor the roasting dates and best-by dates to ensure that our coffee and tea are always fresh and provide the highest quality in-store grinders to protect the integrity of the beans.

Our Beverage Stewards also receive ongoing training and cuppings, so they can help you choose what’s right for you.
