When Cheri was diagnosed with allergies to dairy, peas, wheat and eggs, she thought she would have to give up the foods she enjoyed most, like country style gravy. Her determination to make non-dairy country gravy inspired Cheri to experiment with various nut milks. But, none of the nut milks on the market had the right viscosity or flavor to make the recipe taste right. So, Cheri and her husband, Chris decided to make their own nut milk. They only had to find the right nut for the job.
“Being from a hazelnut farming family, my friend Eileen suggested we try hazelnuts, so we did,” Cheri says.
Hazelnuts hit the mark, and the resulting product is a heart-healthy, shelf-stable, milk-like product consumers can use for cooking and baking, as well as for drinking and pouring over cereal. What’s more, Cheri’s HazelCream is made with Oregon hazelnuts to support local hazelnut farmers.
Cheri’s HazelCream is a family-operated company dedicated to helping people eat the foods they love without compromising taste or health. Cheri and Chris run everything from sourcing hazelnuts and producing HazelCream, to marketing and video production.
Their commitment to helping people with allergies thrive led the couple to donate to FARE Allergy Research and Education. Cheri and Chris continue to look for more opportunities to support allergy research.
