Jon, Medford Assistant Store Manager, encourages and strives for growth at work and in his own life. There’s rarely a day that goes by that Jon doesn’t read a book. Not just part of a book, mind you, but an entire book, cover to cover. He loves helping new authors find their voice, and he brings that passion for helping others to his work at Market of Choice every day, as well.
Jon opened a new chapter in his life when he joined the team at our Ashland Market two years ago. He began as a Kitchen Clerk and before long joined the management training program on his way to store manager. He credits his supervisors for recognizing his abilities and giving him a chance to prove himself.
“It’s a great environment to grow,” he says. Now, Jon has a chance to return the favor by training and encouraging new teammates. “I love the environment and the atmosphere that Market of Choice has,” he says. “Our little store, here, is family.”
It’s not just fellow employees that add to the family atmosphere. Jon says he has regular customers that ask for him. “It’s really satisfying knowing that I have people in the community who rely on me,” he says.
When he’s not working, he’s at home reading and building relationships with new writers. As such, he enjoys offering writers advice on story and character development. Some authors even send him published copies as thank-yous.
As Jon plots his future, he says he’s grateful for those at Market of Choice who have helped him develop skills of his own. “It’s really refreshing being with a company that actually promotes growth and tries to help their employees get better at anything they want to do.”
