Meet Rick Wright
As a family-owned, independent Oregon grocer since 1979, we understand the importance of shopping local and giving back. We started with a single store and have since grown to 11 stores, located in Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Portland, West Linn, Medford and Ashland, Oregon.
Over the years, we’ve developed deep, meaningful relationships with farmers, ranchers, fisherfolk, and food and beverage producers across our great state. Because we want to see them succeed, we strive to inspire, mentor and assist them, as well as amplify BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and Women entrepreneurs. Together, we form a diverse, forward-thinking food community.
Today, we employ more than 1,400 Oregonians who have the opportunity to grow into highly skilled positions as managers and authentic craftspeople, whose mission is to provide a wide array of choices for every lifestyle. We love what we do.

MARKET OF CHOICE
1979 – Opened first store, a Thriftway Market in Cottage Grove.
1980s & 90s – Acquired more stores and operated under the Price Chopper name.
2000 – Began conversion to Market of Choice name & image in response to customers asking for choices in conventional & natural products. Adopted new slogan: Food For the Way You Live. Renovated stores with new, modern décor.
2006 – Opened two stores: one on Willakenzie Road in Eugene, followed by the West Linn store.
2010 – Opened store in Corvallis.
2012 – Unveiled new central kitchen/distribution center in Eugene, paving the way for growth.
2015 – Opened new store in the Cedar Mill neighborhood of Portland.
2016 – Opened new store in Bend, named one of the Best Grocery Stores of Central Oregon.
2017 – Opened new store in SE Portland.
2021 – Opened new store in Medford.
