I’ve tasted some fun, new summer wines as of late; here are a few that have made it to my shelves.
Carabella Winery has 58 acres on Parrott Mtountain in the Chehalem Mountain AVA. Their wines are all estate grown, and farmed sustainably without the use of herbicides. The Pinot gris is done in a dry Alsatian style, with pear and citrus on the palate, finishing with good minerality. $14.59 btl
The Dijon 76 Chardonnay sees minimal oak, allowing the fruit flavors to shine and finishing with crisp acidity. Delicious! $25.29 btl
Kono Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is from the first winery owed by the Maori people. Typical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with intense gooseberry, grapefruit and passionfruit flavors, well balanced by zippy acidity. $11.29 btl
Ken Forrester Petit Rosé is from Stellenbosch, South Africa. Made from Cabernet Franc, and merlot grapes tended by hand every step of the way. Raspberry and cherry flavors predominate, with a dry crisp finish. Perfect with grilled shrimp and a good futbol (soccer) game. $7.79
Last but not least, a red vermouth from Italy. Carpano Antica Formula is made from a recipe dating back to 1786. Very complex with every sip, revealing something new. Clove, vanilla, bitter orange peel, black tea … I could go on and on, but you really need to taste it yourself. $34.99 ltr.
