A Fantastic Pinot Noir for the Holidays

In late October, I was offered a few cases of the newly released 2009 Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, which I jumped on. At only $16.99, this is one of the best values that I’ve seen so far. Very Burgundian in style, with focus on bright cherry fruit and a hint of gravel, this light-bodied Pinot Noir is a great holiday wine. Pairing beautifully with turkey, duck or pork, this wine is versatile, yet elegant enough for any gathering – especially Thanksgiving dinner.

I had the pleasure of visiting Evesham Wood in July, the day before they announced the big changes at their winery. Founders Russ and Mary Raney, who started Evesham Wood in 1986, have decided to retire, selling the winery to Erin & Jordan Nuccio of Haden Fig Wines. Erin & Russ share the same winemaking and vineyard management philosophies, and no major changes are anticipated with regards to running the winery or making wine. Erin walked us through a first-class barrel tasting, and we were infinitely impressed by the wines we tasted and the hospitality we received.

So get out there and get your hands on a bottle of the 2009 Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot. It’s very limited, and won’t be around much longer!
