Meet Kelly

When her kids came down with the sniffles, Kelly Rogers turned to herbal medicine. Many of the remedies she offered them, she now sells to customers seeking the same results. During cold and flu season, vitamins C and D, analgesics and probiotics are literally flying off the shelves, Kelly says.

As Whole Health Manager of our West Linn store, it’s her job to make sure customers have a variety of choices.

The mother of two girls, 21 and 23, and a 12-year-old son, Kelly grew up in Newport on the Oregon Coast. After high school, she helped open a health food store in Dalles, Oregon before taking a job at a Franz outlet store, where she handled orders and helped customers. She joined Market of Choice three years ago.

A life-long learner, Kelly follows the latest trends, findings and recommendations by reading trade publications and other periodicals. “I really try to keep an eye out for things that are being written about,” she says.

Celery seed extract has recently become the next big thing, she says. Thought to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, improve artery function and relieve pain associated with arthritis and inflammation, celery seed extract is not new but has gotten a lot of attention recently. Who knew?

To keep the shelves well stocked, Kelly works with two main distributors and 75 small vendors who supply her with an array of products. In addition to first aid supplies, ear candles, analgesics, protein powders and cosmetics, Kelly ensures that there are enough soaps, shampoos and lotions to keep customers clean and well moisturized.

It’s important, Kelly says, to try the products she sells, so she can speak from experience and talk about their quality and benefits when customers have questions. “I really like helping customers. It’s what really picks me up during the day,” she says.

When she’s not working, Kelley curls up with a good book, or walks the hills of Portland with her son.
